Anjaneya Swamy Temple
About Anjaneya Swamy Temple
Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy Temple is an ancient shrine of significant religious importance located in Tirumala, Tirupati, positioned exactly opposite the Maha Dwaram (main entrance) of Sri Venkateswara Temple. The temple's primary deity is Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya), uniquely depicted with both hands handcuffed in the Anjali pose, commemorating a legend wherein Anjana Devi bound her son's hands to prevent him from leaving Tirumala. According to tradition, the temple was constructed during the reign of a Mahant following Vaishnavite architectural principles and predates the modern cement Hanuman statue visible on the descent from Tirumala. The shrine ranks third in importance after Sri Venkateswara Temple and Sri Bhu Varaha Temple, receiving naivedyam (sacred food offerings) after they are presented to the primary deities. A distinctive 20-foot-high lamp stand, donated by Sri Vadi Kesari Alagiya Manavala Jeeyar Swamigal of Kanchi, attracts devotees fulfilling vows. The temple witnesses approximately 1.2 million monthly visitors and processes over 100,000 coconut offerings daily.
