About Chota Char Dham

The Chota Char Dham represents one of Hinduism's most important pilgrimage routes, drawing devotees to four distinct sacred sites across the Indian Himalayas. Yamunotri honors Goddess Yamuna and features the natural hot spring Surya Kund where ritual offerings are prepared as prasad. Gangotri, situated along the Bhagirathi River, is devoted to Goddess Ganga and offers serene evening aartis illuminated by oil lamps against snow-clad peaks. Kedarnath, positioned at high altitude, enshrines one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and conducts intensive early-morning rituals including Rudrabhishek ceremonies. Badrinath, the final destination, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and maintains the most structured daily worship schedule with multiple aartis throughout the day. All four temples operate on seasonal schedules, typically opening in late April or early May and closing by October or early November, with darshan and aarti timings varying by site.
