About Ghanteshwar Temple
Shree Ghanteshwar Hanuman Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located in the Khar area of Mumbai. The temple houses a self-manifested idol of Hanuman and has become famous for its unique tradition of devotees offering brass bells when their prayers are answered. Originally known simply as Shri Hanuman Temple, it acquired the name Ghanteshwar (meaning bell-lord) as the accumulation of bells grew over time, reflecting the spiritual practice of gratitude among worshippers. The temple is particularly busy on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and major celebrations include Hanuman Jayanti and Ram Navami. It is managed by the Shri Ghanteshwar Hanuman Jayanti Utsav Mandal and offers basic amenities including drinking water, prasad, CCTV security, shoe storage, and parking.
