Jharkhand Dham
About Jharkhand Dham
Nestled in Deoghar, Jharkhand, Baba Baidyanath Dham represents a rare convergence of Shiva and Shakti worship. The temple enshrines a self-manifested Jyotirlinga believed to possess healing powers, earning Lord Shiva the epithet Baidyanath meaning 'Lord of Physicians.' According to legend, the associated Shakti Peetha marks the spot where Goddess Sati's heart fell during Shiva's grief-stricken journey, making it the Hriday Peeth or Heart Shrine. The temple draws millions of devotees annually, particularly during the Shravan month (July–August) when the grand Shravani Mela transforms the town into a spiritual hub. Pilgrims undertake the sacred Kanwar Yatra, walking barefoot from Jasidih while carrying decorated pots of Ganges water, recreating Shiva's mythological journey and seeking blessings for well-being and spiritual growth.
