Kapila Theertham
About Kapila Theertham
Kapila Theertham temple houses a Swayambhu (self-manifested) Shiva Lingam and is revered as one of Andhra Pradesh's holiest Shiva shrines. The temple derives its name from Sage Kapila, who performed deep penance at this site seeking Lord Shiva's blessings; the deity manifested as Kapileswara Swamy in response. The temple's most distinctive feature is a seasonal waterfall originating from the Seshachalam hills that cascades into a theertham (holy pond) within the temple premises. Devotees believe bathing in this pond, particularly during the month of Kartika, cleanses sins and brings inner peace. The waterfall is most prominent during monsoon and post-monsoon months from August through December. The combination of spiritual significance, mythological heritage, and natural beauty makes Kapila Theertham a significant pilgrimage destination.
