About Mahalakshmi Temple, Mumbai
Located on Bhulabhai Desai Road in the Mahalaxmi neighborhood of Mumbai, this historic temple was constructed in 1831 by Hindu merchant Dhakji Dadaji and has served as a spiritual cornerstone for nearly two centuries. The principal deity, Goddess Mahalakshmi, is venerated as the divine consort of Lord Vishnu and the bestower of wealth, fortune, and material fulfillment, while her companion deities Mahakali and Mahasaraswati represent power and knowledge respectively. According to local legend, the idol of Mahalakshmi was discovered in the sea during construction of the Hornby Vellard causeway. The temple experiences particularly vibrant celebrations during Navratri, when lakhs of devotees converge for nine nights of worship, and maintains a daily schedule of multiple aarti ceremonies throughout the day.
