Trilochan Mahadev Temple
About Trilochan Mahadev Temple
Trilochan Mahadev Temple stands as one of Varanasi's most sacred Shiva temples, with the presiding deity known as Trilochan, meaning 'The Three-Eyed One,' and Mahadev, meaning 'God of Gods.' According to the Kashi Khand, the Trilochan Ling is believed to be a self-manifested lingam that descended from the seven Patal Lokas, piercing through each layer to reach earth. The temple is situated near the confluence of three holy rivers—Yamuna, Saraswati, and Narmada—which are said to have performed abhishek of the lingam. The site includes the Pilpila Teerth, a sacred bathing spot, and the Padodak Koop well within the temple premises. Devotees believe that merely uttering the name Trilochan cleanses one of sins, and performing seven circumambulations during twilight yields spiritual benefits equivalent to circumambulating the entire world.
